Normal Delivery Care Strategy

Next October we will know the Normal Delivery Care Strategy that the Minister of Health and Consumer Affairs, Bernat Soria, announced today at the 57th Session of the WHO Regional Committee for Europe held in Belgrade.

This initiative aims to grant the prominence that belongs to women and that increases the quality of health care received. This strategy will be developed by associations of midwives, scientific societies, women and with the agreement of the different autonomous administrations.

It is not surprising, among other more obvious things, the news lasts too long that more deliveries are performed by caesarean section than the WHO considers "moderate", you will find the figures in the post 20% of deliveries are by caesarean section in our country. In addition, it is desired to increase the quality of labor, eliminating practices that may be unnecessary when giving birth, such as the use of forceps or the performance of routine episiotomy among others. It is a right that women choose how to give birth, we hope that public health comes to understand and develop it, we set the latest news of water births in Galician public hospitals as a good example.

In addition to addressing issues such as maternal and child health, this session, which will take place over four days, also includes issues of interest to the health of the population such as food and nutrition, delving into the already scandalous issue of obesity .
