67 complaints have been filed for inappropriate television content during children's hours

Between the months of March 2011 and 2012, they have been accepted six complaints about television programming issued by viewers through TV Children. The results have been made public in the Seventh Activity Report presented by the Joint Commission for monitoring the Self-Regulation Code on television content.

The total number of complaints filed for an alleged violation of the Code was 67, and of the 6 accepted, four correspond to the program 'Save me from Telecinco', and two others to 'El diary de Patricia de Antena 3'. I do not know if I am more surprised that only 67 complaints have been submitted (taking into account the inappropriateness of certain contents in children's hours), or that there are children exposed to certain programs. At present, I think that the only valid options with kids at home are children's chains, outreach programs or some films for family audiences. That, and watch television with children to monitor content and help them analyze it.

Do you want to know a little more about that 'self-regulation code for television content?', It was initially signed, in December 2004, by Antena 3, Sogecable, Tele 5 and TVE with the main objective of improving the effectiveness in the protection of minors as television viewers. Currently, Mediaset, Antena 3, TVE, LA FORTA, Veo TV and Net TV are part of the same. And as for its monitoring commission, it is formed by four representatives of the television signatories of the Code and four representatives of social organizations.

Claims presented in the seventh report

The most common reason for claiming during the period covered by the Seventh Report is the inappropriate social behavior of protagonists or guests of the programs. There is also an increase in claims caused by the equally inappropriate treatment of conflicting issues. On the contrary, those related to the presence of violent or sexual content lose weight.

Regarding the treatment of complaints in the Committee, each case is transferred for evaluation only once, regardless of the number of complaints that it has generated among the spectators. Y Only those claims related to open programming issued by state-level networks are taken into account for the purpose of presentation and evaluation.

It will be avoided that the advances of programs classified as not recommended for children under 18 years of age include the images or sounds that are the cause of that qualification when they are broadcast between 06:00 h. and 10:00 p.m. outside the reinforced protection strips

What are the objectives of the Self-Regulation Code?

They are aimed at improving the effectiveness in the protection of minors as television viewers in the time zone of their legal protection. I have chosen some, and I leave this link with a document where you can consult them in more detail:

  • Do not encourage children to imitate behaviors that are harmful or dangerous to health.

  • Avoid unjustified issuance of inappropriate messages or scenes for minors in the children's audience (explicit sex and violence and others).

  • Promote the protection and development of children's rights by the media and their professionals, and promote adequate literacy of children.

  • Encourage parental control and promote effective technical means that allow parents to be adequately informed about television content and exercise their responsibility to minors (access codes, "lock" programs, EPG's).

Claims per program
Among the norms of the self-regulation code is the establishment of criteria to determine if the contents belong to one or another classification according to the areas of social behavior, thematic conflict, violence and sex

Within the general schedule of protection of the child (from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.), there are some “reinforced protection” strips, which have subsequently been collected by the General Law of Audiovisual Communication.

Any of us who want it, can submit claims based on the programming issued during child protection schedules, is processed through this link. And I leave you again the full text of the Code so you can consult it.
