May 28: National Nutrition Day

Of course, proper eating is essential during childhood and our mission as parents is, among other things, instilling in our children good eating habits. That's why today May 28 we celebrate National Nutrition Day.

It is an initiative of the Spanish Federation of Nutrition, Food and Dietary Societies (FESNAD) in collaboration with other institutions, and with the support of the pharmaceutical and food industry, which aims to highlight the importance of transmitting healthy eating habits.

This year, we wanted to highlight the role of grandparents in food education of our children, especially because there are many who take care of their grandchildren daily.

Grandparents are very important because they have a less rigid relationship with children, and because they are a source of transmission of values, which affectionately, collaborate in children's nutritional education.

Ten keys to teach children to eat

    1. Involving them in the design of the menus of the house: it helps them understand why some days they eat what they like, and others do not.
    1. Letting them participate in the purchase and explaining why we choose the entire variety of foods.
    1. Putting them in the kitchen: it makes them understand that food takes work and that they value what they eat more.
    1. Teaching them to set the table (and if a glass breaks, nothing happens): it helps them understand that it dignifies the food.
    1. Recovering family food and spending that time asking and listening to them: it helps them express themselves and make themselves known.
    1. Speaking of their own gastronomic culture, explaining the origin of traditional recipes.
    1. Turning meal times into pause spaces: they appreciate it and incorporate it into their food concept.
    1. Giving example. You are the mirror in which they look, the easiest way to learn.
    1. Trying to make the moment of the meal a moment of peace and not of quarrel. It helps them to come to the table with greater enthusiasm.
    1. Make them discover new flavors and textures: improve their empathy with food.
