How to choose a travel cot

On these vacation dates many daddies and moms may have raised the possibility of acquiring a travel cot. In Babies and more We have brought you several ideas about these travel cots, including portable cuckoo cots that can take us out of trouble if we are used to going out with babies.

Because they become a great ally that will not monopolize our entire trunk, which we can comfortably transport and the baby will continue sleeping in a crib if it is what he is used to. We have to take into account several aspects when it comes to choose a travel cot that suits our needs.

There is a wide range of prices, from 50 euros the simplest onwards we can find multiple models. These are some of the points to consider to succeed in our purchase:

  • It is best to choose a travel cradle of 2 heights, there are even some 3 heights. Some incorporate a system to raise the mattress, ideal when the baby is very small and we have it closer. In addition, this upper height is very advisable, to easily see and hear the little one, to have it closer and for our back, since leaving a baby "at the bottom" of the crib, so low, it is not comfortable, and more if we take it out several times during the night to feed.
  • exist detachable cribs and folding cribs, each one will choose the one that suits him, always looking for lightness. I prefer the folding ones for convenience of use, especially if they are going to be used often, and nowadays most folding systems are quite simple. In addition, we will not have to worry about additional tools needed to assemble or disassemble the cradle.
  • Ideally, choose a crib carry case so that it travels as protected as possible and also so that when we keep it it is preserved from dust or light ...
  • The cradle should incorporate 2 wheels on each leg of one end to make it easier to move or move the room once it is mounted. Better to only carry 2 wheels and not 4 or 6 to achieve stability.
  • There are some models that, when folded, are the wheels outside the case, which are more easy to transport if they also incorporate a handle from which to stretch to roll the cradle as a small suitcase trolley.
  • It is best that the travel cot incorporates 6 legs instead of 4, with 2 of them located in the middle of the transverse sides, for greater stability and firmness.
  • Travel cots generally incorporate a very thin mini-mattress that folds like a sheet. This is not quite adequate, especially if the baby is going to sleep often in the travel cot. Therefore it is recommended to purchase separately a thicker mat, which is also foldable, and that will be more similar to a normal and more comfortable mattress.
  • It is convenient that the walls, at least some of them, are grating so that the ventilation be adequate
  • Let us take care that the measurements are the standard ones, that is, 60x120 centimeters, so that we can use the crib clothes we already have.
  • For somewhat older children, it might be convenient to choose a model that incorporates a side door. Many models have it at one of its ends, it opens with a zipper or with velcro and they can enter their crib themselves from below.
  • The travel cot can serve us later as a park, let's keep that in mind because we can save that unnecessary purchase. Therefore we can see that the floor of the crib is really stable and that the walls are not opaque to see the baby from outside and also to be better ventilated as we said before.
  • Some models incorporate accessories such as a mobile or mini-carousel, even with music or companion light, hoods or mosquito nets ... Although these accessories are usually left outside the carrying case, so they are a small bulk to transport.
  • I personally consider that a mini carrycot or travel mini-cuckoo is not necessary, since, when the baby is so small you can use the carrycot's own carrycot to rest, when not our bed if you are used to it. And even, with a roll cushion, you could already sleep in the same large travel cot that will serve us for later, without having to pay for an item such as a folding travel cuckoo that will serve us very rarely.
  • Finally, make sure that the model follows the manufacturing standards, meets the safety requirements and incorporates a warranty.

Now we can only wish you ... happy trip!
