Successful separation of two siamese joined by the abdomen

I'm glad to bring this good news that realizes how Siamese sisters born in Morocco and united by the thorax and abdomen have been successfully separated, and evolve favorably. The operation has been performed in the Virgen del Rocío Hospital in Seville, using the latest technology, by a multidisciplinary team of 36 professionals.

The little ones were transferred from Melilla to the Sevillian hospital to perform the operation, which lasted more than 8 hours. It was a complex intervention, both because of the young age of the little ones, with only 3 weeks of life, and because they shared intra-abdominal organs, part of the sternum, abdominal muscles, the diaphragm, the intrahepatic umbilical vein and the peritoneum.

Now the girls are admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of the Sevillian hospital, where they recover. In the video you can see images of the intervention and the words of some doctors who participated in this successful separation that qualify as "miracle."

Siamese twins have a low incidence in the population, and their formation is due to incomplete separation of the two gametes from a single ovule, during the first two weeks of embryonic phase.

Fortunately, there are cases like this that come to fruition although, on the contrary, the union between other babies does not allow for a successful separation, for a quality life of both or they will simply end their days before time.
