The lighters remain a danger to children

Together with the TV remote and the computer keyboard, the lighters They are one of the objects that attract the attention of the little ones. The problem is that in the case of the latter, they assume a grave danger for them.

Accidents with lighters are the second cause of death in children under four years of age, after traffic accidents.

Knowing this, last year the European Community has approved a new standard that prohibits the sale of lighters that do not have a child protection device. Nor does it allow them to present an attractive appearance to them such as incorporating flashlights, dolls, melodies or any object that could be a bait for small explorers.

They have given a one-year term to make the measure effective, which entered into force on March 11. But reality shows that today the requirements are far from being fulfilled.

Facua has verified that 90% of the lighters found in the market do not comply with the new safety regulations so that children under 51 months can not turn them on or prevent them from being attractive.
